WYCKOFF, N.J. — Marci Hopkins of Wyckoff has found a new career giving a voice to the voiceless.
Hopkins — who has a background in television, networks, programming and has spent time in front of the camera — launched her Facebook web-series “Coffee With Marci” a year ago.
The show serves as a platform to local businesses and nonprofit organizations that otherwise wouldn’t have one.
“There are a lot of people doing amazing things in and around New Jersey and the Tri-State area and they don’t really have a place to share with others what they are doing,” the local mom said.
“This allows them to share what it is they’re doing for others whether it’s a service or a mission.”
This month and next, Hopkins is highlighting Certified Financial Services in Paramus, one of the largest mutual life insurance companies in the United States and affiliate with Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.
She’s had dozens of local Bergen County businesses on such as Ski Barn on Route 17, Gigi’s Boutique in Ridgewood, medi-spas, hair salons and more.
Many of Hopkins’ guests are moms over 40, reinventing themselves and going after their dreams. She hopes their stories will help prove to others in their place that they, too, can do the same.
Hopkins’ favorite story so far is that of Access Family Services.
“Two women came on from Access Family Services, looking to raise money to open a safe haven for battered women and children,” the talk show host recalled.
Once the show aired, women from across Bergen County raised money and donated everything they needed — furniture a refrigerator, towels, sheets — so they could open the shelter doors.
“That’s what excites me most,” Hopkins said. “Being able to make a difference.”
